Warning: Solicitation!

Sometimes, in life, it’s the small things that make a big difference. For me, working with a specific group of kids has made a huge difference in my life- at school and at home as I’ve had the pleasure of being Community High School’s Key Club Advisor. This has been a phenomenal experience as we have done some really cool events this year.

We started by undertaking this crazy amazing project called Yuda Bands- in which we were able to send three students to school in developing countries for a year to better their future through education. Our Club put forth a tremendous effort in completing this project, which was as simple as selling these homemade bracelets to members of our community- and others! If you know a group who would like to do a cool service project, this is an easy one to participate in. It’s organized, fun, and helps many people. If you do it, say you heard it from me and our club will get money. (That was solicitation number one.)

“Trick or Treating for Canned Goods” was our second large project. This was a fun activity that caused my Club members to get soaked and confuse locals when they asked for healthy canned goods on Halloween night. The great people of Fort Kent complied, and some supplied the kids with candy anyway. The Club Members returned cold and wet, but were able to donate boxes of food to our local pantry.

Our latest undertaking can be summed up by this image (solicitation number 2)

This is going to be so much fun!

I know, I know, we are all the way up in Fort Kent, but there are many things you can do this fun weekend. First, there are the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races, which happens on Saturday, March 1st. Then, the morning after, at Community High School, there is a breakfast being offered by the seniors. After- you can join us for the above activity (solicitation number 3).

We will be donating 50% of the profits to the Ronald McDonald House of Bangor, 30% to the 10th Mountain Ski Center for use of their facilities, and the remainder will go our CHS Key Club so we can have some ‘rainy day money’ for our spring Random Acts of Kindness Campaign (solicitation number 4).

So, what’s my point? It feels good to do nice things for people. It feels even better to hang out with teenagers who want to make a difference in this world and are willing to give their time, efforts, and energies to others in need. As an adult, it’s easy to forget what matters- the small things.

We often attribute happiness to being rich and having money, but for some, the smallest things – a free stay at the Ronald McDonald House while you visit an ailing relative, a fun day out in the snow, a smile, a hello, a thank you, an appreciative glance, a hug, a shoulder, an ear, or even just a simple compliment- can make or break someone’s day.

So, my request is two-fold: Join us for our outdoor family day, race rocking some snowshoes, eat some chili, and watch kids play. If you can’t do this, please, hit up our online donation page: http://fundly.com/leva3jpa to donate as little (or as much) as you can spare.

So, yeah, that’s all I have for today, folks. Stay tuned!

Help us help someone today 🙂

About Claire Pelletier

I'm 30. Boy am I 30. I have three children: Shelby (almost 8), Harper (3), and Aidan (1). I work full time as an English teacher, full time as a mom, part time as a wife, part time as a cook at a Diner (this is actually a paid position), and a per diem house cleaner. Basically, I do it all. Oh and I like to write (revert back to my full time teaching position). This life is crazy, people are even crazier, and online blogging has given me a voice. Some may think it's a loud and obnoxious voice, but I kind of like it. I do my best to write about things that interest people, mainly about myself. Sometimes I verge into the political land, but that place scares me, so I mostly write about every day things that make me laugh, cry, or scream. Thanks for reading!
